The Story of Some Like It Hot

The show is set in the early 1930s just ahead of the end of the Prohibition era. Two male jazz musicians, Joe and Jerry, see the mob commit a crime at the Speakeasy where they’re performing. Rather than allow the mobster to try to kill them, the musicians go on the run.

They put on disguises and join a touring all-girl swing big band. While touring, the two become infatuated with the band’s singer, Sugar Kane. They keep their real identities concealed, but they both hope to gain the favor of Sugar Kane.

As the group tours, relationships form that could serve to expose Joe and Jerry as men. The mob and the FBI get involved, spotting Jerry and Joe from their tap-dancing routines, further complicating the groups touring to performances and its ability to find new investors.

Jerry, now identifying as Daphne, falls in love with one of the investors, leading to a planned wedding. Eventually, true identities becomes known, but none of the characters let that alter their feelings for each other. As Prohibition comes to an end, the characters are able to move on with their new lives.

Origins

This captivating musical comedy was written in 2022 with Marc Shaiman’s music and lyrics, Scott Wittman’s lyrics, and Matthew López and Amber Ruffin’s book. It earned 13 nominations for the 76th Tony Awards. It also won Best Costumes and Best Choreography. Ensuring you will enjoy the visual portions of the show as much as the amazing music and lyrics. This Broadway Show follows the entertaining story told in the 1959 movie. The film starred the beautiful Marilyn Monroe, making it incredibly popular at the time and for generations that followed. Production History

Some Like It Hot had its opening night at the Shubert Theater on Broadway in late 2022. Its final performance was near the end of 2023. The shows North American tour kicked off in the back half of 2024 and continues today. You now can watch the show in your classic theater in Dallas.
