For those who cherish the stories that retell historical events in a slightly different way, Music Hall At Fair Park has a fresh show. The Broadway play Six — The Musical offers astounding music and an original take on the wives of Henry VIII. The crowd witnesses the strength of women with an engaging story and modern pop music.
Anchored on the infamous marriages of King Henry VIII, Six tells the story of the King's six wives. Penned by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six forms the story as a singing contest in which each of the ladies must tell their story. The audience watches as each woman regains their own identity.
The musical opens as each wife introduces themselves through the performance of a song. Only the bride who suffered the most can become the band's lead singer. Despite arguing among themselves, the brides finally conclude they can no longer let this king define them. And by the end they sing together as a cohesive band.
The play initially debuted in 2017, but Music Hall At Fair Park now offers the next production. Audiences love the play's innovation and dynamic advocacy. Fans love the outstanding music, the message, and the excitement that the play captures.

"Six" is the retelling of the wives of King Henry the 8th, who was a well-known king of England in the 1500s. During his nearly four decades as king, he married six times. His desire to leave his first marriage saw the separation of the Church of England. Many people probably are familiar with the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not know the story of his six wives. That’s where "Six" picks up.
The musical focuses on the story of these six queens as they tell their individual experiences with Henry VIII. The queens compete for who had the roughest experience in living with the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, infidelity, and even beheadings in a way that keeps you laughing while also touching your emotions. They even place a contemporary twist on the story by incorporating a dating app through a parody.
Eventually, they realize that arguing over who had the toughest experience with Henry VIII is not helpful. They come to realize that Henry VIII denied their individuality. They’re not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their own strengths that deserve celebrating. The Six eventually come together to write new endings to their lives. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by dreaming of what their lives could have been like without seeing Henry VIII.
